6 police officers killed in Herat roadside bombing

HERAT CIYY (Pajhwok): Six police officers were killed and another two wounded on Friday when their vehicle struck a roadside bomb in the Guzra district of western Herat province, an official said.

The police officers were heading to their base in the district centre when came under attack in the Ziar Tajai area before noon, the governor’s spokesman told Pajhwok Afghan News.

Ihsanullah Hayat said six police officers were killed and another two were wounded in the incident.

Meanwhile, a police official in the district said the blast took place after the Eid prayers. He said the dead included the district’s deputy operations chief, counternarcotics police officer, an intelligence officer and another two officers.

However, he did not identify the injured police officers.

Guzra is a volatile district 15 kilometres from Herat City, the provincial capital.
