Arghandiwal-led faction of HIA launches cleanliness drive

Arghandiwal-led faction of HIA launches cleanliness drive

Dec 03, 2015 - 14:46

KABULinfo-icon (Pajhwok): The Arghandiwal-led faction of the Hezb-i-Islamiinfo-icon Afghanistaninfo-icon (HIA) on Thursday launched a cleanliness campaign in Kabul, saying it wanted to be part of social services.

As the drive got under way, HIA Chairman Abdul Hadi Arghandiwal told reporters hundreds of youth from his party were taking part in the campaign.

“Heaps of garbage can be seen in Kabul. The party has decided to conduct social activities as well,” he said, adding the campaign had started from the Company area in the 5th police district.

It would culminate in the Mirwais Maidan locality of the city by the end of the day. The overpopulated capital has been increasingly polluted over the past one year in the absence of a full-time mayor, he said.

“Our fellows launched at 7am the drive that will go on until the end of the day,” said the head of the HIA Youth Committee, Saifuddin Omarkhel, who himself is part of the cleanlinessdrive.

The party planned to conduct similar campaigns on a biweekly basis in different districts of Kabul, he announced. Nearly 100 trucks shifted trash out of Kabul from in the first three hours.

Mohammad Hashim Hashimi, the acting head of 5th municipality district, praised the HIA initiative and said the municipality alone could not clean the entire city.

There was a need for the cooperation from citizens, he said, urging other political parties and civil societyinfo-icon organisations to help the municipality in the cleanliness of thecapital.
