Ghani arrives in Ghor to review security

 FIROZKOH (Pajhwok): President Mohammad Ashraf Ghani has arrived in western Ghorinfo-icon province to access security situation here, top security official said on Friday.

Brig. Gen. Muhaiuddin Ghori, commander of the 207th Zafar Military Corps, told Pajhwok Afghan News the purpose of president Ghani’s trip was to observe the security situation in the restive province.

During the visit the president would meet relatives of those civilians who were massacred by the Daesh fighters on the outskirts of Ferozkoh, the provincial capital.

Ghani would also address a huge gathering of local people and tribal elders in Ferozkoh.

Earlier, Militants from the Islamic State (IS) group have shot dead 38 civilians in the province.

Security officials and residents of Ghalmin and Murghab area clashed with Daesh rebels after they tried to kidnap common people. As a result, three members of a local uprising group and one Daesh leader were killed.

A well-placed source confided to Pajhwok Afghan News 38 people -- mainly farmers and shepherds-- were taken hostage before being shot dead by the fighters after the killing of their key member.
