Thousands attend pro-govt gathering in Kabul

Thousands attend pro-govt gathering in Kabul

Jun 09, 2017 - 17:16

KABULinfo-icon (Pajhwok): Thousands of people from the eastern zone on Friday held a gathering in Kabul, pledging their support for the unity government.

Lawmakers, tribal elders, religious scholars and the youth from eastern zone attended the gathering held under a huge tent in the central capital, asking the nation to stand with the government in the ongoing critical phase.

The participants expressed their grief over recent terrorist attacks in Kabul and asked the government to put more efforts into protecting the citizens.

They called the ongoing anti-government protest in Kabul as a political plot waged by some self-centered individuals.

One of the organizers of the pro-government gathering, Safiullah Abidi, said the government was dealing with sensitive security conditions and the people should support the government instead of creating more problems.

He said the government belonged to all Afghans, but a certain group of individuals wanted to bring it down for their own vested interests.

“We are gathered here to announce our support to the presidents, the CEO and the national security advisor. We will let no one push the country into further turmoil.”

He said the anti government protestors had erected their tents on roads, creating great inconvenience for local residents. He asked the protestors to remove the tents and avoid becoming part of a political conspiracy.

Paktia provincial council Chief Mohammad Rahman Qaderi said the protestors who had blocked roads to people in Kabul represented no tribe.

The youth council head, Mohabbatullah Sherzad, said the removal of national security advisor Mohammad Hanif Atmar would only benefit the country’s enemies.

At the end, the gathering participants issued a seven article resolution that voiced support for the unity government and asked all civil societyinfo-icon groups, political parties, and the youth to support the government in this critical juncture.
