President takes aerial view of flood-affected Sarobi

Jul 18, 2017 - 22:14

KABULinfo-icon (Pajhwok): President Ashraf Ghani on Tuesday took an aerial view of flashflood-affected villages in the Sarobi district of central Kabul province, a day after the disaster claimed 17 lives.

After visiting the affected areas, the president directed the authorities concerned to take essential steps at mitigating the sufferings of the uprooted families.

The flooding on Wednesday killed 17 people, injured several others and caused financial losses to people.

A statement from the Presidential Palace said the president, accompanied by a number of officials, took an aerial view the affected areas by a helicopter on Tuesday morning.

It followed a meeting at the Presidential Palace where the president heard reports about the post-flooding situation from the authorities concerned.

The president directed the officials to reach out to the affected families with relief as soon as possible.

Ghani said a technical study was needed to prevent floods from wreaking havoc in Sarobi.

He also said Sarobi should be converted into a planned area and short, mid and long terms projects be executed to protect the area from flooding.

The president directed rural and rural development ministers and others to initiate a study of areas prone to flooding and identify land for relocation of homes with the owners’ consent.
