MAIMANA (Pajhwok):  At least eight Talibaninfo-icon insurgent have been killed and Bukhar-i-Qalah village recaptured by security forces during an operation in northwestern Faryab province, an official said on Saturday.

Col. Amir Mohammad, an official of the Afghan National Army's 209th Shaheen Military Corps, told Pajhwok Afghan News the operation was conducted at 7:00pm on Friday.

He said eight rebels including two notorious commanders -- Mubasher and Baloch -- were killed and four others wounded. One tank and a machine gun belonging to the militants were also destroyed.

He added Almar district chief Mohammad Saleh Saleh, with ANA support, had purged the village of militants. The district chef also confirmed recapturing the area.

The village, located two kilometers from Qaisar district centre, had been under the control of militants for several months. The fighters often staged attacks on Qaisar from the village.

A resident of the area said drones and helicopters carried out strikes on the village. Most of inhabitants had already fled the area and there were no casualties or financial losses.
