Dozens of militants killed in Uruzgan offensive

TIRINKOT (Pajhwok): At least 30 Talibaninfo-icon insurgents have been killed and 15 others wounded in an ongoing operation in central Uruzgan province, an official said on Monday.

Police chief Brig. Gen. Rahmatullah Siddiqi told Pajhwok Afghan New Taliban’s attacks in Chora district were repulsed and a clearing operation was underway.

Gen. Siddiqi said 30 militants, including some notorious commanders, were killed and 15 others wounded during the air-and-ground offensives in Niazi and Kalaragh areas late on Sunday night.

He added the bodies of some slain militants were still lying at the site. Chora district was not under threat of collapse as the insurgents had retreated to others areas, he claimed. He did not give information about the security forces' casualties.

District chief Aminullah Khaliqi said the situation had improved in the wake of air-and-ground operations.

On the other hand, the Taliban claimed overrunning more areas and killing 26 security personnel.
