Most of Ghazni PC members not attending office

Nov 13, 2017 - 08:50

GHAZNI CITY (Pajhwok): The majority of the Provincial Council (PC) members in southern Ghazni province remain absent from duty for months and have been busy doing personal chores.

PC secretary Hassan Reza Yousafi told Pajhwok Afghan News that half of the 19-member Ghazni PC had long been absent from office.

He said the absent members had the backing of some powerful individuals and they were not concerned about their duties and they did not work for people.

“The PC members receive their salaries and other benefits, but they do not perform their duty in a proper way,” he added.

Yousafi said people had lost hope and faith in the PC members because they did not perform their duties well.

A resident of Ghazni City, Rasoul Khan, said he had been visiting the PC office for the last four days for signatures on identity card documents, but there was no one in the PC office.

He said some PC members arrived at office at 10am and most of ID card applicants were refused attestation of their documents, asking them to approach local members of the provincial council.

Mohammad Kazem Rasouly, another resident, said PC members were staying away from the PC office since it was established.

He also confirmed some members had been busy doing their personal tasks and remained absent from meetings.

PC chief Khaliqdad Akbari denied the allegations and said absent members had gone to district centers for formal engagements.

He said it was their job to understand people’s problems and share them with the government. “PC members have always tried to resolve people’s problems.”
